Amazing Frog? review
Amazing Frog? is a weird sandbox that allows you to play with physics and explore its open world any way you like.
The gameplay concept may sound strange, but it turns out to be quite simple. You play as a flatulent ragdoll frog that can fly, drive cars, and do pretty much everything else. Amazing Frog? features its own physics system that feels quite realistic, and the game lets you play with it any way you like, so you can build your own structures or explore the world. And there are many things to explore or find because the game has a lot of secrets and easter eggs.
Apart from the realistic physics engine, Amazing Frog? has lots of vehicles (cars, drones, helicopters), a whole lot of weapons, all kinds of silly costumes you can find or unlock, cannons, zombies, ocean, and so on. There is so much content in the game that you'll need a couple of months to find them all. And the game is still in Early Access, so there will be even more options to have fun by the time of the release.
Sandbox games tend to have mediocre graphics since it would require too many resources to create worlds, both realistic and visually appealing. Amazing Frog? is not an exception, so don't expect the game to be astonishing. But still, it looks pretty well: the shadows are smooth, the lighting is decent, and the textures are pretty detailed.
The sound effects are not too great, but they suit the overall atmosphere of the game really well. It's worth noting that the most frequent sound in Amazing Frog? is the sound of flatulence, since flying is based on it entirely. The soundtrack is also nice so that you won't get bored by complete silence.
Lasting Appeal 9/10
Amazing Frog? may have slightly weird gameplay concept, but it's a great sandbox game, anyway. Its physics engine creates so many possibilities for experimentation or just having fun that it looks like there's always something new waiting for you. And playing it with friends doubles that fun, making this game last for a long time.
Strange and unwelcoming at first, Amazing Frog? proves to be surprisingly addictive after a couple of hours. Just give it a chance, learn how to fly, drive a car, and then it will be impossible to stop.
